As parents, we know that a STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) can help encourage curiosity and critical thinking in our kids. But we’re also aware that we can feel clueless about it all, especially when it comes to helping them with STEAM-related homework. Don’t worry, you aren’t alone!

The 3rd Annual Innovation Week ( is just around the corner, happening March 2-8 at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster. This week-long series of events will encourage people to feed their curiosities about STEAM-related subjects and share conversation and learning. While the week will be full of numerous events, activities and learning opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds, we are super thrilled about two events in particular


YEET! Fest: The Youth Exploration and Experimentation in Technology Festival ( March 2 & 3, 2019, Times Vary, Anvil Centre (777 Columbia Street, New Westminster), Low or no cost (depending on activity), some require pre-registration

Head over to YEET! Fest where kids can explore fascinating technologies and innovative ideas, full of creativity, exploration, and tonnes of hands-on fun! Experiences include DJing, performing arts, a droid obstacle course, machine learning, ask-a-scientist area, virtual reality puppetry and more. Whether your child is into coding, arts, building, exploring, puppets, music, making noise, or anything else, there is something for everyone!

Advancing Women in STEAM ( March 8, 2019, 9:00am – 4:30pm, Anvil Centre (777 Columbia Street, New Westminster), Tickets $24.99

In Celebration of International Women’s Day, Innovation Week will celebrate Women in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), to explore what’s working, what we need, and how we can further connect the dots between women and STEAM based fields. Featuring a number of inspiring leaders from a variety of STEAM-related industries, panel discussions will include topics such as: Why Does Industry Need STEAM?, When Barriers Collide, and Holding Space For STEAM. This conference is best for adults though older teens might also enjoy it. Your ticket includes lunch.
