“Spending time in nature feeds my soul. Because my playground is the forest and mountains, I have always felt called to preserve and protect it. When I became pregnant with my first child, I became keenly aware of how everything we put in and on our bodies can affect not only our personal health but also the environment (it all ends up going down the drain). Since then, I have been obsessed with everything natural and became a DIY queen. As a creative person, I found that writing/blogging about my “natural wins” empowered me to want to do better. My passion is to connect people with sustainable solutions and empower them to live a more natural lifestyle.”

Did you imagine that you’d be a mom at the age that you became a mom?

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a mom. In my Pre-Kindergarten interview, “Mother” was my career of choice. So by the time I actually became a mom at 31, I was definitely ready. I thought it was the perfect age, old enough to have plenty of life experience and young enough to have the energy to chase after them.

Describe your children in a single sentence?

Both of them are energetic and love being outdoors.

How have you changed as a person since becoming a mom?

Oh wow, becoming a mom changed me so much. I have learned to Go With The Flow, because kids are unpredictable and it’s next to impossible to get them to do what you want in a given moment. It has also taught me to release judgement of others. Little things that used to annoy me, now have little impact. Having more perspective, I am now much more compassionate towards others because I truly do not know what anyone else’s story is. My new outlook is that everyone is doing the best they can in any given moment.

What has been the hardest thing about being a mom?

When my kids were really little, I found it really difficult to carve out time for myself. Back in those days, a solo trip to the grocery store was like heaven. I struggled quite a bit after my second was born, and all that I really needed was “me-time”. Now that I recognize this, I make sure to take breaks from momming to ensure my cup is full.

What do you love most about being a mom?

Getting a hug or cuddle from one of my kids makes everything worthwhile.

Do you have a favourite family activity?

Skiing! Or hiking, or biking, pretty much any outdoor activity.

What advice can you give our mama readers?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, just take a moment to sit and watch your kids. Be in awe of how they interact with their environment and watch their little brains tick. It’s truly amazing how quickly it brings you into the present moment. Also, be gentle with yourself, you are doing an amazing job mama!
