Here comes the weekend! And a great one to boot – it’s packed full of awesome family-friendly events and activities. Take part in a sports extravaganza, learn all about indigenous plant use, or take an early morning bird walk. Head to a garden market, an aboriginal market, or a community garage sale. There’s a teddy bear picnic in Coquitlam, it’s Italian Days on Commercial Drive, and the Sapperton Street Festival in New West. Summit Sports Extravaganza
Friday, June 8th, 6 pm – 8 pm, Summit Community Centre, 1450 Parkway Boulevard, Coquitlam
Head to Coquitlam for an evening of fun family activities, including face painting, a bouncy castle, indoor and outdoor sports, and popcorn!
Indigenous Plant Use
Friday, June 8th, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm, Stanley Park, Vancouver
Walk through the forest with an experienced guide of Coast Salish descent and learn about the traditional and present-day indigenous relationships with local flora and fauna. While there will be no collecting on these tours, Stanley Park offers a perfect setting to learn about sustainable harvesting. Enjoy this walking tour and nurture yourself with nature and harmonize your well-being with the natural world. Meet at the #19 Stanley Park Bus Loop. The tour will begin promptly!
Early Morning Bird Walk
Saturday, June 9th, 8 am – 10 am, Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve, 5200 Sumas Prairie Road, Chilliwack
Enjoy the early morning bird activity at the reserve with bird enthusiast, Kevin. Please bring your own binoculars and favourite birding book if you have it. Call 604-823-6603 if you have any questions. Registration is not necessary, just meet in front of the Rotary Interpretive Centre at a few minutes before 8 am.
In the Garden: Art Market

Surrey Nature Centre 10th Anniversary Celebration

Gnome’s Sweet Gnome

Visit the Richmond Nature Park for this whimsical family event on Sunday, June 10. Search for gnomes’ secret homes in the forest from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is free. Donations are welcome. Proceeds support the Richmond Nature Park Society’s environmental education programs.
Italian Day on the Drive 2018
Sunday, June 10th, 12 pm – 8 pm, The Drive, Vancouver
Italian Day on The Drive is a vibrant cultural street festival celebrating Italian culture, heritage and community with over 150 street participants, comprised of partners, merchants, vendors and community organizations – and an estimated 300,000+ attendees of all ages and cultures. It wouldn’t be an Italian cultural celebration if there weren’t a prominent focus on food and beverages. Delicious Italian street food — including pasta, panini, meatballs, arancini, pizza, panzerotti, fried Italian donuts, cannoli, gelato, coffee, and espresso-based drinks — will transport you to the streets of Venezia, Roma, and Firenze as you make your way down The Drive.
