Suffice it to say, there isn’t a kid in BC who doesn’t get excited about the Fair at the PNE. When we were little (only a few short years ago really), we remember being positively giddy about the free fair tickets in our report cards at the end of the year. We loved the rides, the animals, the shows, and of course, the mini donuts. Oh the mini donuts. Here are a few tips on making the annual trip to the Fair at the PNE absolutely fabulous.
plan your visit
We love a good plan. Before heading to the fair, check in with the family to see who wants to do what. Take a look at the handy dandy schedule, which lists all of the activities, attractions and exhibits that are available each day.
plan your budget
There is no end to fabulous things to buy and do at the Fair at the PNE. From doodads at the marketplace to captivating shows to face painting to rides to swag galore, there is something for everyone. Make sure you have a budget in mind for ‘extras’ and that all family members know what that budget is heading out. Because one only needs so many Shamwows. And to stay on budget, check out how to purchase your tickets, get fair coupons and other ways to save.
plan for the weather
We all know the weather can be a bit unpredictable. Bring layers that are easy to roll up in a backpack so you can stay dry if it rains or stay cool under the hot summer sun. The backpack will also come in handy for holding snacks, lunches and water bottles. And as much as we may love our sparkly flip flops, the sheer amount of walking and sporadic weather patterns, we recommend a comfortable closed toe shoe for happy feet. Don’t forget to take your sunscreen too!
plan your eats and your treats
We mentioned the mini donuts right? Well the PNE offers a myriad of treats that will satisfy every palate. For those who love a legendary burger, there is the BC staple, Triple O’s by White Spot. For the more adventurous folk, the PNE food and drink vendors have everything. And we mean everything. Try the foot-long hotdogs, scrumptious poutine, deep-fried pickles, Pennsylvania funnel cakes, fresh-squeezed lemonade, fish and chips, yummy-yummy curry, corn dogs, crepes, sno-cones, milkshakes, and so much more! There are so many options to choose from so be sure to review the food line up before you go.
The PNE has been entertaining kids of all ages for over 100 years. Make sure you set out on your day with good, old-fashioned fun on your mind. Bring your camera and capture memories that are sure to last a lifetime.
Because it’s all there at the PNE.
