Fire up your grill and enjoy the beauty of springtime with this cedar plank maple salmon that is sure to win over your entire family, even those that think they don’t like fish. This is my kids’ favorite way to eat salmon. The sweetness of the maple and the aroma and taste from the plank gives the most delicious flavor. This dish is quick and easy to prepare and makes a great weeknight dinner.


Servings: 4

Prep time: 5 minutes + 30 mins for marinating

Cook time: 20 mins



Large cedar plank (can be purchased in most grocery stores near the fish section, or at your local fish monger)

1–1½ lb of salmon (in filet form with skin on) – I like spring, or sockeye

¼ cup maple syrup

2 Tbsp grainy Dijon mustard

½ tsp salt

¼ tsp black pepper




1.     Soak a cedar plank in water for at least 40 minutes (the longer the better) – this is to prevent flames on the grill.

2.     Wash salmon filet and pat dry with paper towel. Sprinkle salt and pepper over the salmon.

3.     In a small bowl, whisk the maple syrup and mustard. Brush half of the salmon with the glaze in a baking dish for about 30 minutes.

4.     Place plank on grill over medium heat. Lay salmon filet on top. Brush remaining maple mixture. Close lid and let cook for about 20 minutes or until fish easily flakes. (Check it regularly to avoid fire spots and overcooking the fish).
