Are you ready for a fun weekend? The Vancouver International Children’s Festival has taken over Granville Island, with lots of fun for the whole family. There are a ton of awesome community festivals too, from Pitt Meadows to Burnaby to Ambleside Park in West Vancouver. You can also celebrate the humble honeybee, squish, squash, and squeeze objects at ArtStarts, or learn about underwater creatures. Vancouver International Children’s Festival
May 28th – June 3rd, Granville Island, Vancouver
The Vancouver International Children’s Festival inspires and motivates young minds with professional artistic experiences that transform a child’s understanding of the world around them and what is creatively possible. Our 2018 Festival will feature dazzling performances from artists far and wide. From local treasures to rare and exotic finds, these captivating performers will put a smile on your child’s face and hopefully even make you hoot with laughter.
Doors Open Richmond
Friday, June 1st – Sunday, June 3rd, various locations in Richmond
Discover new exhibits and free activities during the annual Doors Open celebration of arts and culture in the community. Head to the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site on Friday, June 1st for the opening celebration, from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm.
Pitt Meadows Days 2018
Saturday, June 2nd, 7 am – 10:30 pm, Pitt Meadows
Fun Filled Family Day celebration in Pitt Meadows. Start the day off at 7am with the Lion’s Club pancake breakfast and end with Fireworks at dusk at Bonson Athletic Park. In between, enjoy a variety of activities at Harris Road Park, Parade, BBQ Dinner, Family Dance and the list goes on.
Community Day at Ambleside Park, West Vancouver
Saturday, June 2nd, 9:30 am – 6 pm, Ambleside Park, 1150 Marine Drive, West Vancouver
Come down to Ambleside Park and enjoy a fun-filled day of festivities for the whole family! This annual event has activities for all ages including a parade, music & dance stages, food vendors, a kid’s zone and a community day lounge. Ride your bike to the event and enjoy free, safe bicycle parking, courtesy of The Bicycle Valet! The bike valet will be at the entrance to Ambleside Park (adjacent to the sailing club).
Hat’s Off Day!
Saturday, June 2nd, 10 am – 5 pm, The Heights, Hastings Street, Burnaby
Hats Off Day is a huge, one-day street festival featuring a colourful main-street style parade with real local flavour, followed by a big street party. Hastings Street from Boundary Road to Gamma Avenue is car-free, and our streets are packed with families, friends, neighbours, and merchants!
Day of the Honeybee
Saturday, June 2nd, 10 am – 2 pm, Honeybee Centre, 7480 176 Street, Surrey
Join us in celebrating the “Day of the Honeybee!” Come learn why honeybees are vital to crop pollination and the fascinating ways they do it. Enjoy free activities, hot dogs and take home a bee-friendly plant all while learning what YOU can do to help save the bees!
ArtStarts Explores: Squish

Squish, squeeze, smush. This week we’re exploring the act of compression and mixing things together via pressure. Come and squash things with us!
Champlain Heights Community Festival

Join us and your community for an awesome afternoon of live music, rides, inflatables, face painting, community booths, BB Food on the Go food truck, and artisan sales. There’s stuff for the adults and the kids and everyone in between. Please walk as parking is limited.
Celebrate Mount Pleasant
Saturday, June 2nd, 11 am – 3 pm, Mount Pleasant Elementary School, 2300 Guelph St, Vancouver
Bring the whole family to Mount Pleasant Elementary on Saturday, June 2nd for the annual Mount Pleasant Day celebration. Organized by the Mount Pleasant Elementary PAC, this fun family event brings together community groups, local businesses and more to celebrate all the things that make our neighbourhood great. There’s fun for everyone with games and activities, including a bouncy castle, obstacle courses, face painting, cake walk and a dunk tank. Pick up some plants at the plant sale, meet some friendly reptiles, make some crafts & STEM projects, and so much more! Bring your appetite and stay for lunch with a great selection at the celebration’s BBQ and snack bar, plus TCBY treats. All funds raised support Mount Pleasant Elementary.

Take a close look at the fantastic underwater realm of invertebrates and microbes in a pond and under a microscope.
World Oceans Day
Sunday, June 3rd, 10 am – 2 pm, Blackie Spit Park, 3136 McBride Avenue, Surrey
Check out some fun activities on the seaside and learn how to care for our coastal areas. We’ll have a marine touch tank, guided beach walks, a shoreline cleanup and birdwatching throughout the day.
